Technical University of Darmstadt
Darmstadt
With more than 25,000 students, Darmstadt’s largest university, the Technical University of Darmstadt, is known nationwide for its good engineering degrees (the first Chair of Electrical Engineering in the world was established here – 1882. Germany’s first female engineer also graduated from the school – 1913), but departments such as Psychology and Biology are also of interest throughout Germany. The proportion of foreigners at the university is around 18 percent. TU is not a typical campus university. It is scattered in many buildings close to each other in the city center, but close enough to be explored on foot. Most of the natural sciences are located in Lichtwiese, outside the city center, but since it has its own cafeteria, only a few students need to commute between the two campuses.
The university, whose closure was even discussed due to the lack of students in the first years of its establishment, has been included in the 301-350 ranking group among approximately 1,500 universities worldwide evaluated in the Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2021 (THE). (Turkey’s best universities can enter the list from 401-500) 267th in the QS Rankings.
